RANT

Please excuse me while I hop on top of my soapbox for a moment and tell you about a few things that have really ticked me off the past 2 weeks.  1. People who don't care and who don't even bother to pretend like they do. Recently I signed up to take part in a swap on a blog that I hadn't really followed for very long but that seemed pretty good and it was for nail polish and it seemed like a lot of fun.  I put about an hour into picking out my items to send to my person, packed it up, made a special trip to the post office during my lunch break to ensure that it was sent by the deadline and now...a month later...I have not received my magical gift of nail polish...so I emailed the girl in charge.  In response I get two sentences.  Now maybe I'm being dramatic but I feel like if I was the person who organized it I would apologize, promise to investigate, and then if it became clear that the other person wasn't going to hold up their end of the bargain I would have ...

Happy December

So my poor blog was completely neglected so I'm sure you noticed that I did NOT post every week like I wanted. I also didn't do the reading that I had wanted.  But I DID pick up my knitting. My huge dream goal would be to finish my knitting project by Christmas to give it as a gift...but I've been having a little difficulty with that since my cat thinks its fun to attack it...so we'll have to work on that.  I also got a new job-sort of-I have been working at another call center for Christmas money, but I really want to find something where I can focus on my marketing skills, so we'll see how that pans out.   I also finished a really cute craft project, but not my t-shirt quilt.  I promise to write a blog about the ADORABLE gift that I made for Lily for her birthday.   But let's not focus on last month...let's look forward!  Here's what I'm hoping to do in December.  1. Dream goal: to finish my scarf that I'm knitting to give it as...

November Goals

Let's get to work...we need to do a little better this month!   1. Get a new job  I have been really missing working a job where I can make a difference. I really want to light a fire under myself to focus on applying and interviewing for a job where I can really affect change.  2. Read 2 books Ideally I want to read one self-help style book and one more fun book.  So we'll see what is calling my name.   3. Work on my knitting I would love to give my mom a scarf for Christmas!  4. Put a dent in my current craft project I'm working on a t-shirt quilt! 5. Keep up the once/week blogging I want to get myself in a habit of keeping this up! I think we'll settle with 5 this month, since I didn't do so hot last month.

October Goals Wrap-Up

I am once again not please with the results of my monthly goals.  It looks like I'm at less than 30%!  That's not good!  1. Work out at the gym...it WILL happen someday. -Not only did it not happen it looks like I will have to find another way to work out because I will not be getting access to the DSW gym any longer.  2. Get 500 followers on  Twitter ...I'm SOOO close   SUCCESS!!! 3. Complete my latest craft project -Also complete, but I'm not sure I'm happy with it.   4. Clear out my garden plot -Done, the only thing left is a cabbage plant since they don't mind the cold.   5. Set-up an online photography portfolio (I have a Flickr; does anyone have any recommendations they like better?) -I didn't work on this...did anyone have any feedback on whether they would pick something over Flickr? 6. Continue blogging at least once/week -I missed the 3rd week of October, but other than that I did pretty good.   7. Pick my kni...

Success!

The Beauty of the Written Word

I loved this article by Phillip Hensher, "Why Handwriting Matters " because I love handwriting, and stationary, and all the wonderful things that come with putting pen to paper.   That's why I am really excited about The World Needs More Love Letters  project.  Each month they send a bundle of love letters to people who are having a hard time of it and need to be reminded that they are loved.  This month I decided to write two of the three letters to see how I liked it.  I found it really inspiring and a lot of fun! Dishing out inspiration and reminding other people that they were loved and important was really empowering.  And of course I loved finding cool quotes to share.  I apologize for the sad photo quality, they were taken with my phone and I haven't upgraded to an IPhone yet.  But I'm super excited about my Love Letters.  They're on their way!  P.S. If you haven't gone to the Post Office and bought Disne...

Crayon Art

So for those of you who don't know I'm obsessed with Pinterest.   And there has been a lot of crayon art pictures popping up like this one: via Light & Spoon And I've been really wanting to try it, but so many of the silhouettes (like the one above) are overly cutesy and romantic, this one has him proposing , and I wanted something more inspirational so I saw this and decided to combine the two.   Via Too Much Time So here's how I did it...and how it turned out:   The Finished product.           All the colors were lined up and the words added and now for the fun part! It melted super slow...even with my blow dryer on the highest blast possible, so it certainly took a lot of patience.   It looked pretty cool just like that but I really wanted to see what it would be like if I removed the letters: Since it was hard to read plain like this I went in with a Sharpie and tried ...
