(Re) Chic

So this has been something I'd been wanting to try ever since I saw all these tutorials on Pinterest about how to use freezer paper as a cheap and easy stencil.   Well the first problem was finding freezer paper, all I had was wax paper, which doesn't really work because the point is to iron the waxy part to the shirt...NOT get waxy build-up all over your iron...but the only thing they had at Wal-Mart was a HUGE roll of it...so I'm pretty prepared for awhile.   I used simple designs and cut them using my Silhouette onto the freezer paper (waxy side down onto cutting mat).   Yes, I know my mat is upside down, but a bad setting cut through the top half.  As you can see, it did a pretty good number on some of the letters, I was going to do another design, but it was so ripped up I couldn't even use it as a stencil.  So just be aware that you want a pretty big, forgivable design, no skinny cutesy fonts here.   Blurry picture of an ancient iron A...

If you know me you know I have a problem...a plants problem.  So naturally a greenhouse DIY is the best thing to ever happen to my Pinterest board.  The original link I found lead me to Country Living Magazine's tutorial which you can find  here .  Its pretty good, but doesn't accurately express the amount of frustration which I experienced with this project. Step 1: Find picture frames This seems incredibly easy, I decided that it would be simple to just go to our local Dollar Store and get $1 picture frames.  The problem: $1 picture frames are not wooden so attempting to nail or screw them results in them falling apart.  So then naturally you would just go to the thrift store, but then I was unable to find enough frames in sizes that would create what I was looking for.  Finally, I found a large pile of frames while I was at the Habitat ReStore where I could find enough (wood) frames for my purposes.   Pile of frames in my yard......

So for those of you who don't know I'm obsessed with Pinterest.   And there has been a lot of crayon art pictures popping up like this one: via Light & Spoon And I've been really wanting to try it, but so many of the silhouettes (like the one above) are overly cutesy and romantic, this one has him proposing , and I wanted something more inspirational so I saw this and decided to combine the two.   Via Too Much Time So here's how I did it...and how it turned out:   The Finished product.           All the colors were lined up and the words added and now for the fun part! It melted super slow...even with my blow dryer on the highest blast possible, so it certainly took a lot of patience.   It looked pretty cool just like that but I really wanted to see what it would be like if I removed the letters: Since it was hard to read plain like this I went in with a Sharpie and tried ...

This seems like a silly thing to say on a day where its been 90 degrees. But here are a few signs that fall is coming: Football is here We celebrated with a "tailgate" at work today with food and Buck-I-Guy was here (I promise, I'll post the picture to Facebook later).   I'm getting sick  :-( Gardening is slowing down  Boots are coming back (and I want to buy them!) Calling all brides, grooms, future brides, and wanna-be brides. I want your take on this: via www.freedigitalphotos.net I recently read a very interesting article I saw on Pinterest from "The Things We Would Blog"   that was all about reasons why you should see your other half before the wedding and do your photos beforehand.  As a die-hard traditionalist I was immediately like "how could this crazy woman say this?!" but as I'm reading the article and seeing the photographs of just the bride and groom togther it got me thinking that maybe she has a great point.  You can read her article for her complete reasons  but what really got me was the idea that you can't process your normal day without your other half...why would you try to process the biggest day of your life without seeing them first?  Not to mention getting all the photos out of the way so you can go straight to the PARTY! Which is after all the most important part.  S...

After my adventure in DIY flats earlier I was determined to make a pair that would not fall apart. And I think I've succeeded this time. I decided to do a color block since that's such a huge trend right now.  You can also see another bit of inspiration for the cap toe look at Refinery29 who put these up on Pinterest the same day I did mine!  Great minds think alike!   Look how adorable these babies turned out!  And they're so simple! Just tape off and spray! And of course don't forget the clear coat  to seal it!  And done!  What do you think?

I was inspired by a pin a user posted from We Are Not Martha  (a great crafty site by the way) I found to revamp some really pathetic looking flats that were falling apart to try and create my own glitter flats. Here are the before photos of the world's saddest-looking flats So I pulled out some old silver glitter I had from my RA door-dec making days, bought a new jar of Mod Podge and started glittering!  Below is the picture after adding the first coat of Mod Podge and glitter.  Crafter's tip: mix the mod podge and glitter together before applying to the flats-that will keep you from leaving a trail of glitter behind you when you walk.  After applying enough coats of glitter to ensure that all the turquoise color was covered I went ahead and applied two extra coats of Mod Podge to seal any stray glitter pieces that think they can escape me!  Last coat of Mod Podge! And then I slipped them on to wear to Katie's Grad...

As you can see I have not been very wordy lately and that has mostly do to with the fact that I am currently apartment hunting and starting a new job. But here are some of the things that I've been doing while not having my life in upheaval. Made my 1st batch of pickles using my Grandma's recipe Trying out new recipes like this one from Allrecipes.com. Harvesting my garden to get ready to move.   And of course...being addicted to Pinterest! I promise I will be getting settled and be back in the writing rhythm soon!
